The teacher marks the student as present, absent, or tardy. The campus administration determines if the absences are excused, unexcused, etc. A student's attendance record may be changed by the teacher or campus administrators. Some circumstances in which this may occur include:
It is the teacher's responsibility to record attendance in a timely manner (at least daily). If this occurs, the attendance record will be updated throughout the day, and the most accurate attendance data will be displayed on the student's attendance page.
The official attendance record determines funding received by the campus from the state. Each campus is required to maintain records showing average daily attendance (ADA) for the campus. The official attendance for the day is taken during the ADA period (often the second or fifth period of the day).
The established ADA period does not change during the school year.
For funding purposes, students who are absent during the ADA period will be counted absent for the entire day. Students who are present during the ADA period will be counted present for the entire day.
For funding purposes, a student must be present for at least two hours to be considered in membership for a half-day, and for at least four hours to be considered in membership for one full day.
